Child Watch Program Coordinator

Position Summary:
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing program area, staff, and participants.  Provides a quality experience to participants focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plans and implements lessons plans and/or program delivery assignments.
  2. In conjunction with director, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Assists with review and evaluation of staff performance.  In conjunction with director, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Interacts and engages with participants in a friendly, professional manner.
  4. Leads activities for assigned group of participants as necessary.
  5. Supervises the overall program area, ensuring the safety of the participants while maintaining a clean and safe environment, i.e cleaning toys and/or equipment and ensuring area is free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions.
  6. Effectively communicates with parents and/or participants regarding scheduling and requirements of programs.
  7. Ensures that accurate attendance records are maintained if necessary.
  8. Assists with promotion and marketing of program(s).
  9. Maintains required certifications.
  10. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  11. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes reports as necessary.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. High School/GED required with some college preferred.
  3. Certifications:  Appropriate professional certifications as required, ie. ropes, aquatics, etc.  CPR, Basic First Aid and AED within 60 days of employment.
  4. One year previous work experience in a similar program.  Previous experience coordinating a similar program preferred.
  5. Previous experience in recreation, teaching, childcare, or physical education, as appropriate.
  6. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  7. Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
  8. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position.
