Wellfleet Cultural District

The Wellfleet Cultural District is a portion of Town that was designated in 2017 by the Mass Cultural Council in recognition of the concentration and vitality of its artistic, cultural and natural resources. The goal of the Wellfleet Cultural District is to link the Harbor and Town through a walkable loop that includes many of the town’s restaurants, galleries, fine clothing stores, theaters, gift shops, markets, and the marina, public library and community cultural center. There are currently 40 members of the District, which are representative of Wellfleet’s diverse arts, culture, and small-business community.

The established goals of the Wellfleet Cultural District are:

  • Enhance what is special about life in Wellfleet for residents, property owners, and visitors alike.
  • ?Promote economic activity in the District to build on and expand the existing arts, culture, and natural environment.
  • ?Preserve the history environment and customs that reflect the community experience over time.
  • Nurture the diversity of contributions in the visual, performing, literary arts, as well as marine and natural sciences.
  • ?Celebrate our culture and arts while fostering stewardship of this unique natural environment that inspires us.

Position: Marketing and Communications Intern

Description: Wellfleet Cultural District seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working for a community-based organization.

Responsibilities:
• Establish, develop and create content for the District’s social media presence, including scheduling Facebook updates and posts to platforms
• Assist in developing, planning, writing and managing monthly eNewsletter
• Work with members of the District to craft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
• Designing flyers, graphics, and other marketing material for events and happenings
• Assist in updating the District webpage on the Town website when needed
• Reach out to the community organizations, general public and potential members with the message about the District’s goal to welcome everyone to share in the historic, artistic, and scientific contributions of Wellfleet
• Collaborating with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications

Qualifications:

  • Good Marketing and Communications Intern candidates should at least be enrolled in and on track to graduate from a college or university, or is a recent graduate, with a degree in marketing, communications or a related discipline.
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Aptitude with various social media platforms as well as the data tracking tools associated with them
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the Wellfleet Cultural District and the community we serve

Start Date: Position open until filled, requires 3 – 6-month commitment.
 

Hours: 8 – 12 hours/week, preferably with at least 4 hours a week in the office/around Wellfleet doing research.
 

Compensation: reimbursement for mileage and a stipend of $700 to $1200 to be determined at the end of service.
