Job Description

Qualified applicants sought for full time position of Librarian I for the Dennis Public Library.  This position will work under the general direction of the Library Director.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree with a Master’s degree in Library Science, from an ALA accredited graduate school preferred; and three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible experience in professional library work, including adult reference and reader’s services; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work.  Knowledge of computerized library systems.  Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System, Library of Congress system, and MARC records format; demonstrated computer literacy and experience.

Ability to plan and evaluate bibliographic services.  Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships with patrons and staff of diverse backgrounds and age levels.

Skill in planning and organization.  Skill in operating a variety of office equipment, including computers, and strong attention to detail.
