Phlebotomist for Environmental Research Study

PHLEBOTOMIST POSITION
Silent Spring Institute is seeking one or more highly motivated and energetic full-/part-time phlebotomists to support an 8-month public health study in Hyannis, MA, beginning May 2021. The study is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and will research possible health effects associated with chemical exposures from local drinking water. The study is a collaboration between Silent Spring Institute, Harvard School of Public Health, and Eastern Research Group.
 
Key responsibilities:

  • Collecting blood samples, along with other health measurement data (e.g., blood pressure, height, weight, body fat)
  • Logging participant and specimen information
  • Processing samples in accordance with strict study protocol requirements
  • Supporting other study tasks as needed (e.g., recruitment, tracking participant appointments)
 
Required qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in both pediatric and adult phlebotomy
  • National or other accredited phlebotomy certification, and/or completion of training as part of a degree program such as medical technology or nursing.
  • Training and experience in handling and processing biological samples (e.g., serum aliquots) with relevant medical equipment (e.g., a centrifuge)
  • CPR/first aid/AED training or nursing credentials
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and public interaction skills, especially with children
  • Strong recordkeeping and computer skills
  • Spanish and Portuguese language skills also a plus
 
Candidates must be able to work at least 20 hours per week for the 8-month duration of the project. This would ideally involve 4 to 5 mornings a week, including some Saturdays. Schedules are negotiable, but flexibility is required to accommodate study participant schedules.
