Custodial Supervisor

Job Description
Position Summary:
Supervises assigned custodial staff at West Barnstable and Falmouth locations.  Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal.  Complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool or waterfront cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
  1. In conjunction with director, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Assists with review and evaluation of staff performance.  In conjunction with director, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  2. Maintains a clean and safe environment, ensuring area is free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions.  Completes all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.  Performs wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool or waterfront cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  3. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  4. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift.
  5. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  6. Sets up furniture for events.
  7. Records and reports all needed repairs.
  8. Maintains required certifications.
  9. Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  10. Complies with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to OSHA which are applicable to your own actions and conduct.
  11. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.  Completes reports as necessary.
  12. Maintains a positive, professional, and customer service environment.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
  1. Minimum age of 21.
  2. High School/GED required with some college preferred.
  3. Two years or more of related custodial experience in facility-based environment.
  4. One year of supervisory experience.
  5. CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 60 days of employment.
  6. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  7. Working knowledge or experience in cleaning methods and equipment.
  8. Understanding of cleaning compounds, chemicals, their safe and efficient use.
  9. Experience in managing multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
  10. Good human relation, organizational and communication skills.
Physical Demands:
  1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  2. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  3. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  4. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  5. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  6. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; walking, climbing stairs, crouching, kneeling, bending, stooping, sitting, standing for an extended period of time, shoveling, carrying/lifting or moving up to 30 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
The work is performed both indoors and out and may require travel to various locations. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
