JOB SUMMARY:  Install or repair heating and air conditioning systems in residences or commercial establishments

  • Measures and determines duct sizing for proper air flow and ensures that proper amounts of duct and fittings are requested for the job. Cuts ductwork, applying site requirements in job preparation.
  • Stretches/lays out ductwork before installation to ensure accuracy in layout. May modify existing space to accommodate new equipment or build unit platform for unit, ensuring that it can carry the weight for the unit and technician
  • Reads layout prints and installs duct/flex systems and equipment according to job requirements. Wraps duct with insulation and seals, as needed. Secures duct and places Company stickers on installed equipment
  • Fasten seams or joints together with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, or bonds to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items.
  • Test pipe/tubing joints or connections for leaks using pressure gauge or soap and water solution
  • Repair or service heating/ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to improve efficiency such as changing filters, cleaning ducts or refilling refrigerants
  • Install auxiliary components to heating/cooling equipment such as expansion/discharge valves, air ducts, pipes  and devices
  • Measure, cut, thread or bend pipe or tubing using pipe cutter tools
  • Assemble, position, and mount heating or cooling equipment following blue prints or manufacturer instructions
  • Maneuver completed units into position for installation, and anchor the units.
  • Transport prefabricated parts to construction sites for assembly and installation.
  • Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area. Completes installations by thoroughly cleaning and removing all trash from the installation work site
  • Working knowledge of hand tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have valid HVAC Sheet metal Worker’s License
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work overtime/weekends during peak seasons
  • Technical training in plumbing and HVAC repairs/maintenance
  • General skills such as:  Judgment, Client Relationships, Equipment Maintenance, Reporting Skills, Confidentiality, Quality Focus, Results Driven, Supply Management, Informing Others
  • Physical abilities:
  • Lifting and carrying of 50 pounds independently
  • May be exposed to excessive cold, heat or humidity, cramped or dark spaces, dust or other irritants, grease and oils, hazardous substances/specimens, electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards, severe weather conditions, prolonged work hours, work outside of normal “business” hours.
  • Visual abilities to include depth perception, ability to see peripherally, ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing abilities to include ability to hear instruction in person or via cell phone in potentially noisy environments, manual dexterity/mobility, use of hands for fine/basic grasping/manipulation
  • Bending, standing, squatting, crawling, reaching regularly
