Estimator – Residential Construction

Job Description

E.J. Jaxtimer, Builder, Inc. is a well-respected and growing residential building, landscape and millwork firm specializing in high-end residential projects. "We take pride in our work". We have an exciting opportunity available! We are currently seeking a full or part-time estimator to join our dedicated team.

The Estimator will obtain material pricing and organize all the information necessary to aide in creating and submitting proposals to clients.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other department, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Analyze blueprints and product specifications to accurately determine time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors for each project.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures by using trackable detailed spreadsheets.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Review material and labor reequipments.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Price individual items according to scope of work.
  • Convert bids to orders and create contracts.


  • High School education or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction estimating
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel

Candidates must be well organized and be able to effectively communicate with management, employees and sub-contractors. We are looking for a motivated person who possesses a strong attention to detail, has residential construction experience and is a team player.
