Dive into the world of gardening with David DeWitt, your expert guide, through this four-week series alternating between Provincetown and Truro Public Libraries. "Think Ahead to Spring Gardening," equips you with the knowledge and skills to cultivate a thriving, organic garden. Kicking things off on February 1 with the essential building block – soil. Learn about native soil types, balancing its health, and utilizing compost and mulch effectively. Next, February 8 dives into planning and planting. Craft a realistic garden blueprint using seed catalogs, crop rotation, and scheduling. Master seed starting at home and navigate the local nursery scene. On February 15, we delve into the cornerstone of organic practices: pest and disease prevention. Identify common Cape Cod issues, understand Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and discover organic tools to tackle challenges head-on. Finally, February 22 pushes the boundaries with "Beyond Organic." Explore advanced methods like Bio-Dynamic, Regenerative Agriculture, and Korean Natural Farming (KNF) to take your gardening to the next level. Join us for a season of fertile learning and cultivate your dream garden!
About David DeWitt
David DeWitt is the owner/head grower of Dave’s Greens, a 5-acre farm with over 38,000sq ft. of greenhouses located in Truro MA. David has been farming on Cape Cod since 1987. He studied soil and plant science at College of The Redwoods and Humboldt State University in Northern California. David attends two farmers markets a week, wholesales, and has a CSA program. David is one of the founding members of Sustainable Cape, a non-profit. Sustainable Cape hosts the Truro Ag Fair and facilitates many local food and health objectives. David was the Chair of the Truro Agricultural Commission where he worked for 5 years. He has lectured extensively on organic farming and related topics for over 30 years. David has his "Soilsmith'' certificate utilizing Korean Natural Farming and Biodynamic growing methods as well as traditional Organic practices.
