Event Description:
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Summer of 1967 that ushered in a countercultural fervor throughout the country, CCMoA exhibitions illuminate the Abstract Art movements that broke the conventions of Realism and led to new artistic expressions in the 1960s. The Summer of Love Annual Gala & Art Auction will bring back sights and sounds of that 1967 summer of celebration.  ‘….be sure to wear flowers in your hair.’

Masters of Abstraction: Local Collections - Works by well-known artists Robert Motherwell, Andy Warhol, Jim Dine, Alexander Calder, Frank Stella and others on loan from collectors who love them.   On view June 15 – Sept 17, 2017
 
Collaboration with the Cape Playhouse
The Cape Playhouse, which is on the grounds with the Museum, will be presenting two award-winning plays whose theme is Abstract Art:  “Art” and “Red.”   
 
Dan Welden:  Innovations in Printmaking
                This exhibition highlights Weldon’s large-scale abstract prints created with his own environmentally-safe Solarplate process which eliminates harmful chemicals – he uses the Sun!  On view June 29 – August 11
  • Welden Solarplate Talk and Film  July 6, 5 pm;
  • Reception – July 13,  5:30 – 8 pm
  • Welden Printmaking Workshop July 7 – 8.
 
International Masters:  Collaborations in Printmaking  – An Exhibition of lithographs and mixed-media prints, created collaboratively with Dan Welden as Master Printer.  These are images by other well-known artists, including Willem de Kooning, Elaine de Kooning, Eric Fischl, and David Salle    On view July 13 – Sept 17, 2017.
