Provincetown celebrate the 6th annual Polar Bear Plunge on January 1, 2023. On New Year’s Day an intrepid group of people will gather in the Johnson Street parking lot and, at noon (weather permitting) will run and plunge into the waters of Provincetown Harbor. The Center for Coastal Studies is grateful to plunge organizers who donate Plunge proceeds to the Center’s Shark Research Program. Bryan Legare, Shark Program director, will discuss his work at the event.
This tradition is part of the Provincetown First Light celebration for New Years Weekend 2023. The plunge is co-sponsored by the Harbor Lounge, Yolqueria, Mezzeterranean and the 8 Dyer Hotel and features feature warm-up cocktails and chili at Harbor Lounge. There will also be a DJ, music and a guest emcee, as well as Manzanita Coffee, Captain’s Daughter’s tea and the best group of people willing to run into the bay on New Years Day!
Participants should wear water shoes to protect your feet from oyster shells.
