Description
The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster is proud to present IFAW Marine Mammal Rescue and Research Manager, Brian Sharp speaking about “Marine Mammal Response-What Are We Learning?” Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 1pm. Cape Cod is one of the top stranding hot spots in the world with dolphins and whales washing up on our shores regularly year after year. A trained eye can spot severe neck entanglements harming multiple gray seals in any large haul out. The International Fund for Animal Welfare is on the scene to help these distressed animals. Come find out what IFAW staff are learning from these hands-on rescues. Brian Sharp is the Manager of IFAW’s Marine Mammal Rescue team dedicated to protecting marine mammal species including dolphins, whales, porpoises and seals along the coast of Cape Cod to Rhode Island. The team is on call 24/7 and responds to animals in crisis as firefighters respond to fires. Whether a pod of dolphins is stranded on the beach or a seal is entangled in fishing line or whale skull needs to be unearthed for DNA analysis – Brian and his team are there to rescue animals and conduct scientific research. Free with Museum Admission. For more information please call: 508-896-3867, ext. 133
