Recorded live on December 14, 2022, Neil McGarry’s award-winning one-man performance of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, wowed the sold-out audience. The production premiered to rave reviews in 2014. Using only Dickens’ original text, McGarry delivers a riveting performance of the classic holiday story, portraying each character with full intensity—from the miserly, self-centered Ebenezer Scrooge to the hard-working, mild-mannered Bob Cratchit to the frail, but inspiring Tiny Tim, and all three of the Ghosts of Christmas. McGarry’s performance has been described as “nothing short of electrifying,” as he seemingly effortlessly gives the audience the impression that they are watching a full company of players. The show is fully staged, complete with dancing. McGarry has a rich, expressive voice and he knows when to unleash the full thrust of his characters’ feelings and when to reign them in, bringing his audience both to laughter and to tears.
“The performance … broke my heart and renewed it … captivating, funny and thought-provoking.” - JessicaHolcomb
Directed by Ross MacDonald, McGarry’s performance was named “Best Of Boston” by critic Jules Becker and won "Best Solo Performance” from the Independent Reviewers of New England in 2014.
Armed only with Dickens’ words and a bare stage, McGarry delivers the perennial holiday classic in a tour de force that has left audiences riveted from Boston to Prague. Joyous, witty, and gloriously uplifting, A Christmas Carol is a fully staged, full-throated leap into Dickens’ most famous story, delivered with a simplicity that disarms and touches the heart.
